Upgrade Bookworm to Trixie
Prep Sources
First make sure things are current
apt update && apt upgrade
Then snatch the new trixie sources list from a trixie system
rsy rip.psg.com:/etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.sources /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.sources
First Upgrade Steps
First tail /etc/crontab so you capture your mods, as this update
will mash it.
Then tun the simple upgrade accepting the new versions of crontab
and 50unattended-upgrades
apt update
apt upgrade --without-new-pkgs
Now edit and fix /etc/crontab and then copy a good 50unattended-upgrades
rsy rip.psg.com:/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades
The Big Upgrade
The real upgrade
apt full-upgrade
And then copy in files that were upgraded but we have local versions
rsy rip.psg.com:/etc/chrony/chrony.conf /etc/chrony
rsy rip.psg.com:/etc/ssh/sshd_config /etc/sshd
rsy rip.psg.com:/etc/default/grub /etc/default
update-grub
Auto-Remove usually finds nothing, but run it just in case
apt autoremove
Do these two very carefully
apt purge '?obsolete'
apt purge '?config-files'
And then some final cleanup. The setcap to fix trixie breaking
ping, should probably just be apt install linux-sysctl-defaults per
this page
setcap cap_net_raw+p /bin/ping
rm /etc/apt/sources.list
rsy rip.psg.com:.bashrc .
chown randy:randy .bashrc
If this is a ZFS system
cat > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/trixie-backports.sources << EOF
Types: deb
URIs: https://deb.debian.org/debian
Suites: trixie-backports
Components: main contrib non-free non-free-firmware
Signed-By: /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg
EOF
and
cat > /etc/apt/preferences.d/90_zfs << EOF
Package: src:zfs-linux
Pin: release n=trixie-backports
Pin-Priority: 500
EOF
and then you probably need to
sudo apt update
sudo apt install linux-headers-amd64
sudo apt install zfsutils-linux
and zpool import tank or whatever
